Ok lets call this stupid post number one, but I just can’t resist.
I hate to iron. Unfortunately, it has been a necessary evil for me throughout my adult life. It started in the Navy and continued into my civilian career after a (very) brief hiatus. Once I realized that people took me more seriously because of the way I dressed, I was hooked. Presentation is 90% of perception and I have real life experiences to prove my statements…just ask.
This is it
A couple of years ago (ok maybe 10 years now) I bought a Rowenta Iron. It was the most expensive, Bed Bath and Beyond offered at that time. With coupon, I think I paid $90.00 or so. I thought it was crazy, but being recently divorced I felt a new freedom to buy what ever the #$%^ I wanted to. This iron rocked! I was so impressed that I bought my mother one. Mine went kaput after a short time, I think less than a year. (the plug opened up. I could have easily fixed it, but I wasn’t thinking clearly) I bought a new one, same make and model. This one worked for several years without a hitch. It made short work of my weekly ironing. The third one, an “improved” model lasted about two years before the internal heater quit working. This one wasn’t so good. It ironed quickly, but not like the others or maybe it was my perception, I thought it used alot more steam. Either way I lived with it till it broke.
I recently had to buy a new iron, like today. This would be number four since 1992ish The old one stopped heating three weeks ago and the shirts are piling up. I was getting close to using the “pullovers” for work. Eek Gad!. (funnier story that I will save for another time) I decided after MUCH INTERNAL STRIFE to buy the top of the line iron at Bed Bath and Beyond. It, of course, was a Rowenta called the Advancer. I used this iron this evening and OMG is it awesome! My previous measurement for ironing was done with short sleeve button down shirts. I could easily iron one every six minutes. Today with the Rowenta Advancer, I ironed eight long sleeve shirts in 46 minutes. This included adding water to the iron twice and buttoning the collars and putting the shirts on hangers. This is a record Dean Cain would be impressed with! (look it up. It isn’t funny when I have to explain it) I averaged ironing one long sleeve shirt every 4 minutes.
Yes, I know this is a bit over the top of the geek meter. Marilyn my fiance’, thinks it is funny that I time myself ironing, but my response is… I have to keep myself entertained; ironing is pretty dull business.
If you iron a lot, seriously look into a more expensive iron. Weight doesn’t matter as much as steam does. The Rowenta is Top Gun in the iron business and I am again hooked on their product!
Think of what you could be doing instead of ironing. I am making a blog post… Better use of my time?
Peace
Jeff
